The display on the iMac would now stay on, but the computer would click off from time to time. I immediately deleted them by way of AppCleaner which appeared to help. Two additional points: 1) About three weeks ago my application MacUpdater - not Mac Update - displayed a notice that two applications were quite old and had no updates available. Admittedly, it’s not as fast as my new Mac Mini M1. I believe that it is as fast as when it was new. I have tested the computer for more than two weeks and have not experienced one problem. Finally, I decided to drag and drop all my data files onto an external drive.īottom line: I can speak only for my own experience, but I found “salvation” by going into the Recovery mode, then using Disk Utility to erase my internal 500GB SSD and reinstalling a fresh copy of High Sierra, which is the latest version compatible with my Mid-2010 27” iMac. At the same time, I was unable to do a backup with either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. For about nine months I used an external monitor to avoid the black screen, but it would suddenly shutdown at least once or twice a day. My computer worked okay most of the time. The maddening thing was that both problems were intermittent.
So, I repeatedly reinstalled a copy of the operating system by way of the Recovery system.

😜įor a long time it had been my suspicion that it was a software problem. In reference to these two issues, I have the dubious distinction of having spent more time trying to find a solution than any other human on planet earth.
